Firemac’s Royal Visit for Queen’s Award

In April it was announced that Firemac Ltd, based in North Berwick, had been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation 2018, the highest accolade that any UK organisation can achieve for product development and innovation.

Firemac owners Donald and Fiona Mackay were initially welcomed to a winners’ reception at Buckingham Palace where they met His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, who personally congratulated them on the company’s award success. Following the Palace visit an official award presentation took place at the company’s UK offices in North Berwick, last month.

The award, given for its Firemac FM Fabric PSA, a high performance self-adhesive glass woven fire resistant fabric that is applied to galvanised steel ductwork to create a fire-resistant ductwork system.

Firemac FM Fabric PSA is the latest innovation from the company which revolutionised the fire-resistant ductwork sector when it first introduced its third-party certificated fabric-based Firemac FM Fabric system to the UK some 15 years ago.

The event, attended by Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant, Michael Williams, who presented the Grant of Appointment and commemorative crystal bowl, as well as the Lord Provost, the entire UK team, and some of their longest suppliers and customers as well as local Councillor Jim Goodfellow, was a toast to all the hard work achieved by the team throughout the years.

Established in 1965, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise celebrates the UK’s small and medium sized businesses. Widely regarded as the most prestigious business awards in the country, the 2018 award marks the 52nd anniversary of the scheme.

In his speech, the Lord Lieutenant congratulated the Firemac team on the prestigious achievement, and in particular, becoming the first Scottish company to have received the award in the Innovation category

Speaking on the event, Managing Director Donald Mackay said:

‘Today is not just about celebrating a product of which we are all tremendously proud but celebrating the joint effort of all the Firemac team throughout the years, and the values we share as we seek to deliver high quality, technically superior products and outstanding customer service. Sharing today with our long-standing suppliers and customers was important, as without them Firemac really couldn’t have grown into what it is today’

Also in attendance were 2 representatives from the Fire Fighter’s Charity who received a cheque for £4,000 for the second year in a row as Firemac’s official charity for 2018/2019.
