Every year Firemac appoints a charity partner to support. In previous years we have associated ourselves with charities close to home, supporting causes such as the Royal Regiment of Scotland and the Fire Fighters Charity, who provide life enhancing health and well being support to the whole fire community.
After such a great 2018, Firemac wanted to extend our outreach and support a charity local to Firemac’s Head Office in North Berwick, Scotland.
Together in Sport is an East Lothian based charity founded by Kari Spence that aims to improve the life opportunities open to school children in Rwanda’s rural Bugasera district. One way which Kari was looking to raise funds for the community was to find 5 organisations sponsor to 1 day each of the school week, providing one much-needed nutritious meal to the children at Faith and Hope Primary.
Together in Sport aims to improve the life opportunities open to school children in Rwanda’s rural Bugasera district. This is achieved by raising funds for Faith and Hope Primary, in the village of Gako, aiming to provide education and health insurance for all. Together in Sport has already achieved securing health insurance for every child attending the school, has built a new kitchen, contributes with the local teachers wage, and has enabled the school to purchase much needed supplies such as textbooks and teaching materials.
MD Donald Mackay said of the charity ‘It’s always great to be able to support any cause, but Together in Sport has been a local cause that we have been aware of for a while. Kari was at the same school as my children and its really great to see young people taking such a committed interest in helping others. Firemac Friday’s is a lovely feeling for all the team to have, knowing that the children of Hope and Faith Primary School are receiving a delicious meal.’
